Small Group Excursions and Regional Tours
Each week we arrange small group excursions to Isla Negra, Quintay and the Casablanca Valley; hikes through the palm forest in the Ocoa section of La Campana National Park and guided tours of Valparaiso which provide the opportunity to meet the people and understand something of the culture in addition to just seeing the sights.
Four days a week we visit Pablo Neruda's home at Isla Negra and then take a very scenic coastal drive to the beautiful ex whaling village of Quintay with rugged coastlines, wild flowers and birdlife as well as the old whaling station. The day also includes a visit to the award winning (Best Sauvignon Blanc in South America, 2009) William Cole Vineyards in the Casablanca Valley, seeing the grapevines in the field and the vinification process in the winery before a winetasting session. This excursion easily enables you to visit all three activities in the day whereas using public transport each activity would take a whole day in itself.
La Campana
At least twice each week we venture out to the UNESCO listed La Campana National Park so that our guests can visit the Ocoa Sector which is the last refuge of the Chilean palm tree. This palm is in danger of extinction and thousands of these can be seen in the park. We take a 4 hour hike to a picturesque waterfall surrounded by prehistoric scenery, with a wide variety of bird, plant and animal life, and a microclimate similar to the semi-desert north. Charles Darwin was fascinated by the same park in his journey of discovery almost 200 years ago. This is a full day excursion which closes with a visit to sample some local food or a beer and a stop to buy fresh produce from a farmers stall roadside.
Explore Valparaiso with a local
Valparaiso is a maze of stairways, alleyways, hills and houses so we planned this excursion to provide a perfect introduction to the people of Valparaiso and the UNESCO World Heritage City.
The day begins with a visit to Caleta Portales, the regions largest fishing cooperative and markets where you can not only see the catch being brought in, but you can speak with the fisherman and market workers through your guide.
This excursion allows you to discover all sorts of other things that you could not do alone and provides an opportunity to learn about life in Chile with a knowledgable local guide.
Direct Transfers
We can arrange door to door transfer from the Airport or from your accomodation in Santiago. A transfer can be particularly convenient if you have a lot of luggage or are arriving on a late night flight from the south of Chile, Easter Island or another location. Friends of ours, Alex and Rene do a great job transferring guests to and from the airport, cruise ships and bus depot. Contact them via www.turiservice.cl or through us.
An increasing n umber of visitors are combining a transfer from the airport to The Yellow House with a visit to the Casablanca Valley Wine Region which is located between Santiago and Valparaiso.
Please let us know if you would like more details about this or other direct transfer options.
